Rishab Shetty and Manjummel Boys Director Chidambaram Join Hands for Kannada Sports Drama

National Award-winning actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty is all set to venture into a new genre with an upcoming Kannada sports drama, bringing him together with acclaimed filmmaker Chidambaram, the director of the blockbuster Manjummel Boys.

The collaboration is said to involve two projects, with the sports drama being their first outing together. The film is currently in the pre-production stage and is expected to commence shooting next year. The project will be produced by Shibu Thameens.

The announcement has generated interest as it brings together two of Indian cinema’s distinctive storytellers, both known for creating rooted narratives with strong emotional depth and cultural authenticity.

For Rishab Shetty, the sports drama marks another interesting addition to an increasingly diverse lineup. Having explored acting, writing and filmmaking across different genres, the actor continues to experiment with new subjects while retaining the cultural and regional sensibilities that have been central to his work.

Rishab’s Kantara franchise, particularly his National Award-winning performance, established him as one of the prominent creative voices in Indian cinema. With projects such as Jai Hanuman also in his upcoming slate, the actor is now looking to explore different storytelling territories.

The upcoming sports drama could offer Rishab yet another opportunity to combine his strengths as an actor and storyteller. His ability to draw from local traditions, characters and lived experiences has become a defining feature of his cinematic journey.

Meanwhile, Chidambaram has earned recognition for his unconventional approach to filmmaking and his ability to build emotionally engaging, character-driven narratives. His Manjummel Boys emerged as a major success and established him as a filmmaker to watch out for.

The collaboration between Rishab and Chidambaram is therefore particularly intriguing, with both bringing a strong understanding of rooted storytelling to the table. Their first project together could potentially offer a distinctive take on the sports drama genre.

The makers are currently keeping the storyline, cast and technical crew details under wraps. More information about the project is expected to be announced in the coming months as the film progresses towards production.

With two acclaimed creative forces coming together, this Kannada sports drama is certainly a project to watch out for.
