V. Sekar (63), one of the senior directors in the Tamil film industry, passed away in the early hours of today at Chennai’s Ramachandra Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment due to ill health. Hospital sources revealed that he had been in critical condition for the past 10 days.
Born in the village of Neyvanatham near Thiruvannamalai, V. Sekar worked briefly in the health department after completing his education. Encouraged by figures like P. Lenin and K. Bhagyaraj, he later entered the film industry. He made his directorial debut in 1990 with the film Neengalum Hero Thaan.
Some of his notable films include Viralukketha Veekkam, Kaala Maari Pochi, Ellaam En Pondattithaan, Koodi Vazhnthal Kodi Nanmai, and Purantha Veeda Pugundha Veeda. He was particularly skilled in portraying humor and family emotions. He was also known as the former president of the Film Directors’ Association and for his contributions to the industry.
V. Sekar’s demise has sent shockwaves through the Tamil film industry. The film community and fans have expressed deep condolences to his family. His final rites are reportedly scheduled to take place today.
