First south Indian film to be remade in Chinese

Indian films have begun gaining wide viewership in the international spectrum. Films like '3 Idiots', 'Dangal', and 'Bahubali' went on to create huge success in the Chinese market after getting released.

Director Jeethu Joseph's 'Drishyam' will become the first south Indian regional film to be remade for the Chinese audience. After its original release in the Malayalam, 'Drishyam' was remade in other regional languages including Tamil in which it was titled 'Papanasam' with Kamal Hassan and Gautami in lead roles. The film went on to become a national success. And now, a Chinese firm have signed contracts and bought the remake rights for the Mohan Lal starrer film to make it available to the Chinese audiences.

In what seems to be an encouraging trend, films like 'Drishyam' could help propel our regional directors to improve the quality of cinema that they deliver.
