Superstar Rajnikanth who was last seen on screen in the Pongal release Darbar directed by AR Murugadoss had next started shooting for the movie Annaatthe directed by Siva, fresh from the success of his Ajith starrer Viswasam.

Annaatthe was planned and announced to be a Diwali 2020 release and was being filmed in Hyderabad's Ramoji Film City but the Coronavirus pandemic has resulted in the shooting getting cancelled and the release date was pushed to Pongal 2021.

However, the latest news making rounds is that Annaatthe might be postponed further due to the shooting delays and might release only in summer 2021. An official announcement on this can be expected soon. Annaatthe has a huge cast including Meena, Keerthy Suresh, Nayanthara, Kushbhu, Prakashraj, Soori, Sathish and has music by D Imman.
