Rajinikanth’s Coolie Set for OTT Release

After its grand theatrical release last month, Superstar Rajinikanth’s action entertainer Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is now heading to OTT. The film is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video in the second week of September, arriving just a month after its big-screen debut on August 14.

Though the film grossed over ?500 crore worldwide, it is being termed only a modest success. Several distributors reportedly faced losses in certain territories, and critics described it as one of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s weaker outings. In Tamil Nadu and the Telugu states, the response was mixed, though Rajinikanth’s star power ensured strong collections.

The OTT release is expected to bring the film wider reach, particularly among viewers who missed it in theatres. Prime Video, which bagged the streaming rights, is planning to roll out the premiere next week, with the exact date to be officially announced soon.

Produced by Sun Pictures on a grand budget, Coolie features Rajinikanth in a dual-shaded role, with Shruti Haasan and Sathyaraj playing pivotal characters. Music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

Rajinikanth’s films traditionally enjoy huge traction on streaming platforms, and both the makers and Prime Video are confident that Coolie will attract strong viewership online despite its mixed theatrical run.
