Ahead of the release of 'Iddari Lokam Okate' on December 25, Raj Tarun is confident that the rom-com will strike the right chord with the audience. In this interview, catch him talk about what makes the film unique, how he tried to grapple with a spate of flops, his upcoming movies and more.
A pure love story
The film is a pure love story and the world of my character is love, love, love. There is no other genre in the movie. It's inspired by a Turkish movie but it's an adaptation. My director asked me to watch the movie and I loved it.
Last 30 minutes is soulful
It's a content-driven film, whose last 30 minutes are mind-blowing. The basic story of the original and its characterizations have been retained. There is plenty of Telugu nativity. This is the second remake in my career.
Superb performer
Shalini Pandey is a fantastic performer, who has done an energetic role in 'Iddari Lokam Okate'. She is a spontaneous actress who will cry without using glycerine. We developed a great rapport during the making of the film.
Subtle character
I have been used to play energetic, loud roles. But in this film, I am subtle. It took me some time to get used to the change. My slang, too, is neutral in the movie. The story treatment, the situations in the lives of the lead pair, the last 30 minutes - everything is unique. Director GR Krishna is a filmmaker with strong convictions. He is clear about what he wants.
Lucky date
'Uyyala Jampala' too released on December 25, which was a Wednesday. This time, too, it's a Wednesday and the date is same! I am feeling lucky.
Became cautious due to flops
Since a few of my previous films didn't do well, I paused and became cautious with my choices. I offered my hair to the Tirumala Lord in the meantime. Looking back, I should have been more careful before doing films like 'Rangula Raatnam'. Some things are not in our hands. Different films flop due to different reasons.
Was on a vacation during a sabbatical
I traveled a lot during the sabbatical. After coming back from holidaying, I started listening to the scripts. I have equal love for all my films. So, it always hurts somewhat when a film fails. After the row of flops, I didn't worry unnecessarily. I paused and contemplated.
Analyzing failures
I can't say that 'Lover' didn't turn out the way it was narrated to me. I won't blame anyone. A film is a collective effort. A film might go haywire for plenty of uncontrollable reasons. I do follow movie reviews and try to understand the feedback that way.
Upcoming movies
I have a film each lined up with two well-known production houses. 'Orey Bujjigaa' and a role in 'Dream Girl' remake are the other two films in my kitty. I look for variety. Every actor has a comfort zone, but I also try to come out of that.
I will be getting married in 2022. I am in a relationship.
