Raghava Lawrence keeps his promise, win hearts

Renowned for his cinematic endeavors and unwavering philanthropy, actor-director Raghava Lawrence embarks on a remarkable initiative to empower the differently-abled community by reviving the traditional Tamil gymnastic sport, ‘Mallar Kambam.’ This age-old sport, involving intricate postures on a vertical pole, presents a formidable challenge even to those with functional limbs.

Sharing insights into his foundation’s aspirations, Lawrence elucidates, “‘Mallar Kambam’ emerged as a solution to combat the injuries incurred during war training, with a vertical pole serving as a safer alternative. Witnessing a decline in bookings for dance shows among my foundation’s members, I recognized the need to infuse novelty into their routines and alleviate financial strains.”

Under the guidance of ‘Mallar Kambam’ coach Adhithyan, the foundation members, despite physical limitations, displayed remarkable dedication and swiftly grasped the intricate movements. Inspired by their progress, Lawrence resolves to address their daily transportation challenges by gifting them scooters, alongside conceptualizing a film that highlights their struggles.

“I’ve penned a story wherein I’ll portray a physically challenged character. Proceeds from the film will fund the construction of residences for them,” reveals the compassionate actor. While Lawrence will assume the lead role, he entrusts the directorial reins to another filmmaker, with an official announcement imminent.

In a bid to bolster morale, Lawrence pledges to organize ‘Mallar Kambam’ events periodically, urging the public to incorporate this enriching sport into their celebrations. Emphasizing the importance of spotlighting the performances of differently-abled individuals, he underscores his initiative’s focus on empowering these extraordinary talents.

Amidst his philanthropic endeavors, Lawrence eagerly anticipates his upcoming projects, including “Hunter” and “Benz,” where he assumes pivotal roles. Additionally, efforts are underway to revive the beloved “Muni” franchise with “Kanchana 4,” testament to his enduring commitment to both cinema and social welfare. Raghava Lawrence’s gesture is winning the hearts of one and all.
