Quentin Tarantino Drops Bombshell: ‘The Movie Critic’ Pulled from Final Project List!

Quentin Tarantino consistently makes exciting creative choices, and the latest one for “The Movie Critic” is no exception. In an exclusive, Deadline reported that the film had fallen out of his project slate. It would have been his 10th, and what now looks like it will be his final feature.

It was Pitt, whom Tarantino had always intended for the lead, who was supposed to become their third team-up after “Inglourious Basterds” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” The rumors had the ensemble include a smattering of stars from Tarantino’s previous hits, and Sony—flush from his last film—was getting in position to make this one, too. However, in one of the many unexpected plot twists from Tarantino, his decision to completely overhaul the script waylaid production led him to eventually nix “The Movie Critic” as his last cinematic swan song.

It is a development that mirrors a sudden move by Tarantino several years ago when he abandoned “The Hateful Eight” after its script was leaked. While feeling betrayed, he would later revive the project, which then won the acclaim of critics. Now, with “The Movie Critic” in hand, such a change of heart by Tarantino leaves many of his fans wondering: What more is to be seen?

While his final film project is cloaked in mystery, Tarantino hinted at some details in Cannes, more or less a California-based story in 1977. Inspired by his after-school job delivering adult magazines, a film follows the story of a boring film critic. Like with his previous decisions, whatever film masterpiece he decides to make as his goodbye, Tarantino’s ability to pivot will show his adaptability and make sure there will be anticipation for his next one.
