"Ponniyin Selvan" is the cinematic adaptation of the classic novel of the same name, by renowned author Kalki. It is based the historical facts about the Chola bloodline. The story is about a Chola King's grave secret and follows the dispute between Cholas-Pandyas.

This monumental project is helmed by Mani Ratnam, one of the greatest filmmakers of Indian Cinema. The ensemble cast includes Chiyaan Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Trisha, Prabhu, Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, Kishore, Jayaram, Lal, Rahman, and a whole set of other stars.

A child artist in Tamil cinema, Raaghvan Murugan of Rekka, Sethupathi, and Maari 2 fame has shared his selfies with India's beauty queen Aishwarya Rai on his Instagram handle. Not just that, he has re-shared some stories of fans on Instagram, thereby revealing that Aishwarya will be playing the role of Nandhini, and Raghavan will be playing the role of the young aged Pandiya Prince.

Ponniyin Selvan is being jointly bankrolled by Allirajah Subaskaran and Mani Ratnam, under their Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies banners. Ravi Varman wields the lens for the movie and Sreekar Prasad is taking care of the editing of this movie, while the music is composed by Isai Puyal AR Rahman.

Recently, the makers released a brand-new royal poster confirming the release date of the movie. Ponniyin Selvan is the most expensive film that is still under production. The film will grace the cinema halls with its presence in April 2022.
