Tamil Nadu Police have been gearing up to host music concerts during weekends all over the State at places of prominence and at places where people throng in huge numbers so as to improve its rapport with people and be more friendly with them.
The proposed music concerts, to be performed by folk artistes, are apparently an attempt by the police to improve its relationship with the people amid increasing criticism that the gap between people and the police is widening. The concerts would be held at Chennai and other Districts in the State during weekends.
Bus Depots, Railway Stations, commercial complexes, parks and beaches have been chosen as the ‘locations’ to hold the police-sponsored music concerts, it is reported. The concerts would be followed by special programmes aimed at creating awareness among the people on how to get in touch with the police during accidents, dacoity, robbery and other emergencies. Contact telephone numbers would be informed.
Brochures informing the services/duties the police discharge for the people’s welfare would also be distributed. Tamil Nadu Director-General of Police T.K. Rajendran has issued a circular to Chennai Police as well as to police across the State instructing them and granting approval to hold mandatory music concerts over weekends.
