In an unexpected decision, leading video-streaming platform Netflix has announced that it will cancel subscriptions of accounts which are inactive for a period of one year or more. This announcement has come across as a shocker for netizens.
It has been revealed that, beginning this week, Netflix will start notifying their customers/ subscribers via emails or in-app notifications, questioning if they’re willing to continue holding the subscriptions/ accounts and in instances of no response from the users, Netflix will automatically delete the accounts.
Eddy Wu, the Director of Product Innovation at Netflix expressed that the inactive accounts are just few hundred thousand users who contribute less than half of one percent of Netflix user base. Netflix currently is the largest video streaming platform with a huge base of 183 million paid members around the world.
