Results of the Indian Council of Medical Research's second Sero Survey are out. As per the report, a considerable population of India is still vulnerable to COVID-19.
As many as 29,082 people were surveyed (between August 17 and September 22, including both dates) and, approximately, 6.6% showed evidence of past exposure to the virus. In other words, one in 15 individuals aged more than 10 years have already got cured of the infection silently.
ICMR said that lockdown and containment strategies, coupled with behaviour change at the population level, have effectively checked the potential spread of COVID-19. "A considerable section of people are susceptible to COVID-19. Risk in urban slums is twice that in urban non-slum areas, and four times than in the rural settings," the report says.
Meanwhile, as per the Ministry of Health, the number of COVID tests per million population in India has crossed 50,000. "Total 2.97 crore tests conducted in the month of September. More than 7.30 crore tests conducted so far," the Ministry said.
