Days after observing patients infected with the Omicron variant of Covid-19, doctors and scientists across the world have reportedly learned that the symptoms of the variant were very mild and that none of the patients reported a loss of smell or taste.

Unlike the Delta variant of Covid-19 which affected several individuals in the second wave of the pandemic, people infected with the Omicron variant did not experience any difficulty in breathing or require oxygen support either. While some of the patients were found to be asymptomatic, others suffered mild symptoms, including headache, body aches, cold, fatigue, fever and sometimes cough.

Dr. Angelique Coetzee, a private practitioner and chair of South African Medical Association, was reportedly quoted as saying, “Symptoms at that stage were very much related to normal viral infection. Most of them are seeing very, very mild symptoms and none of them so far have admitted patients to surgeries. We have been able to treat these patients conservatively at home.”

She added, “The most predominant clinical complaint is severe fatigue for one or two days. With them, the headache and the body aches and pain.” India has so far reported 23 cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19. Maharashtra leads the tally with ten cases, followed by Rajasthan with nine.
