BBC-cited local media said that Nicki Minaj was temporarily detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. Dutch police said they "arrested a 41-year-old American woman at Schiphol Airport for possession of soft drugs," but did not name Minaj.
On social media, authorities said they "released" the lady arrested for exporting soft narcotics. "After consultation with the Public Prosecution Service, the suspect was fined and allowed to continue her journey," it said.
Minaj posted a video on Instagram Live of an official indicating they wanted to jail her for “carrying drugs,” which she denied. I won't enter. "I need a lawyer," Minaj said in the video.
Minaj entered a police van after the confrontation. The rapper's Saturday night Manchester gig was postponed while on her Pink Friday 2 globe tour in Europe. Live Nation said the show would be rescheduled and tickets honored.
Another Instagram video shows Minaj talking to an official who wants to search her luggage. Wasn't that your plan all along? Why not check it before the flight? "she asked.
Minaj wrote on X (previously Twitter) about her Amsterdam flight delay due to police finding cannabis. "Keep in mind they took my bags without consent," she said.
Minaj later wrote on X that she arrived at her Manchester hotel after "sitting in a jail cell for 5-6 hours," and the aircraft was delayed after she boarded. Thanking fans for their patience, she promised to reschedule the Manchester event with a bonus for ticket holders.
Amsterdam allows possession of less than five grams of marijuana, per the Netherlands government website.
