Universal Studios is currently in the initial stages of planning a new film centered around the iconic super spy Jason Bourne. Filmmaker Edward Berger, recognized for his work on "All Quiet on the Western Front," is in discussions to take the director's chair for this project.
This prospective movie would mark the latest addition to the highly successful franchise, renowned for its five films that collectively amassed over $1.6 billion at the global box office. Notably, four of these movies featured Matt Damon in the lead role.
Insiders familiar with the undertaking emphasize that it's still in its early developmental phase. As of now, there's no concrete screenplay in progress, nor has a writer been attached to the potential film. Consequently, whether the plan involves reviving the original cast or pursuing a complete reboot remains uncertain. Thus, it's premature to speculate on the return of actors like Matt Damon, who initially portrayed the amnesiac assassin in 2002's "The Bourne Identity" and last reprised the role in 2016's "Jason Bourne." Similarly, the involvement of Jeremy Renner, who portrayed Aaron Cross in "The Bourne Legacy," remains undetermined, though his return might be plausible.
Should the negotiations succeed, Berger would join the esteemed league of "Bourne" directors, including Doug Liman, Paul Greengrass, and Tony Gilroy.
Edward Berger, acclaimed for helming the World War I epic "All Quiet on the Western Front," recently secured U.S. distribution for his upcoming thriller "Conclave." Represented by Range Media Partners, CAA, and Casartto Ramsey & Associates, Berger continues to make waves in the film industry.
