What prompted ‘Tolet’ director Chezhian to boycott National Film Awards ceremony?

The 65th National Film Awards was announced recently and only four awards were given to people from the Tamil film industry. ‘Tolet’ directed by Chezhian was named the best Tamil movie, AR Rahman bagging two National Awards and Shashaa Tripathi for best Tamil singer.

Meanwhile it was said that the President will be conferring the awards to only 11 awardees and the rest will be handed over by I&B Minister Smriti Irani who herself is a former awardee. However about 60 winners have threatened to boycott the awards ceremony including director Chezhian. The general hope is that the President himself will confer the awards to the winners.
