Modi wears Apple Watch, concerns raised

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been clicked while addressing a gathering on Tuesday. In the pic, he is seen wearing an Apple watch. The smartwatch, Netizens are saying, is a potential security issue. 

Journalist Kushan Mitra has commented on the issue. He wrote, “My concern with Narendra Modi wearing an Apple Watch is not anything to do with the price but more to do with the Americans having potentially sensitive health data of our Prime Minister.”

There are others who are seeing it as a necessity. Wrote Dr Srikanth Miriyala, “Whatever may be the company, these wearable external devices become handy in terms of a medical emergency. They are valuable at alerting changes in heart rhythms and provide past records as well. I think it is even more necessary than luxury for the leader of the nation.”

Many are mocking Modi for maintaining a ‘rich’ lifestyle. In the PM’s defence, social media user Aishwarya Mudgil commented, “Modi has been an MP for the last 8 years. He was an MLA before that. He has no dependents and maintains a simple lifestyle. Why is him being able to afford an Apple Watch such a big news for you? Some people find eternal joy in seeing India and its representatives, poor.”
