British Police are investigating a metaverse game scenario where a girl’s VR avatar was gang-raped.
The Daily Mail stated that numerous men’s avatars raped the 16-year-old girl’s avatar in an immersive VR game.
British sources told the Daily Mail that while the victim was not physically harmed, law enforcement is taking the emotional and psychological impact seriously.UK Home Secretary James Cleverly supports the probe, emphasizing the girl’s psychological distress and cautions against discounting virtual conduct.
“I know it is easy to dismiss this as being not real, but the whole point of these virtual environments is they are incredibly immersive,” he told LBC’s “Nick Ferrari at Breakfast” program.
We’re talking about a sexually traumatized child. He emphasized that it had a major psychological impact and should not be dismissed.
Ian Critchley of the National Police Chiefs’ Council warned that predators could use the metaverse and that online crime policing must change. He also asked digital businesses to improve user safety.Horizon Worlds is a Meta (previously Facebook) game. Despite reports of virtual sexual impropriety on the network, no UK legal action has been taken.
In 2022, a 43-year-old British lady claimed verbal and sexual harassment on Meta’s Horizon Venues metaverse. She alleged three or four male avatars “virtually gang-raped” and photographed her avatar within 60 seconds of joining the virtual realm.
