On August 14, Chennai Cyber Police arrested Kollywood actor Meera Mitun in Kerela after a video of her making casteist remarks surfaced on Twitter. She is a small-time actress who previously participated in Big Boss Tamil season 3.
The latest news is that a lower court in Chennai accepted the bail plea of the model and her associate Sam Abhishek on Wednesday. They were locked up in Tamil Nadu Puzhal central jail for over a month now. The petitioners are ordered to be released on bail after they execute a bond for Rs10,000 each as sureties and instructed not to tamper with the evidence or witness either during investigation or trial.
As per the prosecution case, the accused Meera insulted the entire Scheduled Caste community in the videos released on her social media. She said that the scheduled caste film workers should be chucked out of the cinema industry during an interview with a YouTube channel. The accused are also ruled to appear before the police every day at 10.30 AM until further orders.
While hearing the petition in the lower court, Principal Sessions Judge (PSJ) R Selvakumar said that penal provisions cannot be invoked during bail. However, the prosecution can prove this during the trial. The Judge said that the court is inclined to grant bail since they are in custody for five weeks and it is human nature to err.
