Several news reports, especially those in the Telugu-language media, have claimed that a humongous number of EVMs malfunctioned during the polling process in Andhra Pradesh. They have blindly quoted AP CM Chandrababu Naidu’s claim that 30 percent EVMs have reported glitches.
As per former IAS officer and Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh IYR Krishna Rao, nothing is farther from the truth.
“Out of one lakh EVMs used in the AP elections, only 344 were found malfunctioning. About 43 of them were replaced and others were rectified. Vernacular media favourable to CBN made it look all through the day as if there was a total failure of the election machinery,” he writes.
