Maniratnam’s web series ‘Navarasa’ release date and other details revealed!

Navarasa is an upcoming Indian Tamil language web series from Netflix. The show is created by Maniratnam who collaborated with Jayendra Panchapakesan to produce the series through their respective banners Madras Talkies and Qube Cinema Technologies.

The series features nine stand-alone episodes based on the Indian concept of the Navarasas. The nine episodes represent a different emotion or rasa such as anger, compassion, courage, disgust, fear, laughter, love, peace, and wonder. The episodes are going to be filmed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, Bejoy Nambiar, Karthik Subburaj, Halitha Shameem, Ponram, Karthick Naren, Rathidan R Prasad, Aravind Swamy, and late director K.V. Anand.

The show is filled with a star-studded cast which includes Surya, Revathi, Siddarth, Aditi Balan, Aravind Swamy, Vijay Sethupathi, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Ammu Abhirami, Prakash Raj, Aishwarya Rajesh, Yogi babu, Bobby Simha, Nithya Menon, Ashok Selvan, and Gautam Karthik among others. The music will be scored by A.R. Rahman, Imman, Ghibran, Govind Vasantha, Justin Prabhakaran, Karthik, Aruldev, and Ron Ethan Yohann.

Navarasa marks the digital debut for Mani Ratnam and his production company Madras Talkies. This is Netflix’s second direct Tamil show after Paava Kadhaigal (2020). The series was scheduled to release in May 2021 but due to the second wave of COVID-19.

The latest update regarding Navarasa is that the show will be out in August month. The tentative release date is August 9 according to the sources. Netflix India might unveil a teaser showcasing the visual of the series to announce the release date anytime soon.

Also, Surya is the star in the episode helmed by aesthetic filmmaker GVM. Sources revealed that Surya’s character is named ‘Kamal’ and the episode is titled ‘Guitar Kambiyin Mele Nindru’. This will be a musical episode as the title suggests and it will have 5 songs in it.
