Official! Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ clinches yet another box office milestone

Kollywood has had a good run at the box office in 2023. We have multiple top-grossing films from big heroes in just four months. Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Varisu’, Ajith Kumar’s ‘Thunivu’, Simbu’s ‘Pathu Thala’ and Vetrimaaran’s ‘Viduthalai’ emerged as films with high revenue at the end of the first quarter.

Now, the hot news is that Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ has surpassed the other four films to become the most collected Tamil film of 2023. Lyca Productions declared the same officially on social media a while ago. Sharing a kickass poster, the makers captioned, “The Chola flag flies high! #PS2 is the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year!”

PS-2 joined the elite 300 crore club in 10 days. Now, the movie is close to earning Rs 400 crores worldwide at the end of 15 days at the box office. The epic historical fiction film is still dominating the box office amid the new releases in Kollywood. Ponniyin Selvan is based on author Kalki’s iconic novel of the same name about the Cholas.

With music by AR Rahman, the mega multistarrer has Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Ashwin, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, Sobhita Dhulipala, Vikram Prabhu and others. The technical team includes cinematography by Ravi Varman and editing by Sreekar Prasad with art direction by Thota Tharani.
