Award-winning legendary filmmaker KS Sethumadhavan, who helmed a handful of iconic and path-breaking movies in Malayalam and also introduced Kamal Haasan, died at his residence in Chennai. The acclaimed director who worked predominantly in Malayalam cinema was 90 years old. As per reports, he was suffering from age-related ailments for some time.
Paying his tribute to the award-winning director, Kamal Haasan posted in Tamil, which translates to, “KS Sethumadhavan, who created timeless epics on screen, is the source of the new wave cinema. One of the fundamental keys to determining the quality of Malayalam cinema. He will be remembered forever for his artistic achievements. Tributes to my Sethu sir, the teacher who taught good cinema.”
It was Sethumadhavan who introduced iconic Kamal Haasan as a child actor in Malayalam through the movie ‘Kannum Karalum’ and in the lead role through his film ‘Kanyakumari’. He was known for giving silver screen adaptations for iconic works in Malayalam literature.KS Sethumadhavan and Kamal Haasan, later on, worked together in films like ‘Kanyakumari’, ‘Ormakal Marikkumo’ and ‘Thettu’ in Malayalam. KS Sethumadhavan also directed Kamal Haasan-starrer ‘Nammavar’ in Tamil, which also won the National Awards for Best Feature Film in Tamil.
