‘Vikram Vedha’ directed by Pushkar Gayathri is obviously the saga of a daring criminal played by Vijay Sethupathi who is obsessively hunted by an encounter cop Madhavan. The just released trailer only after a few viewings allows one to focus on other things as the towering presence of the two leads captivates throughout. Vijay Sethupathi is brash and expresses the menace of his character through sheer body language while Maddy is subdued but chillingly sinister as well.
In ‘Vikram Vedha’ themes such as betrayal, the sameness of good and evil and how the perception of right and wrong changes according to situations are explored which should make for some intriguing viewing. P.S Vinod’s cinematography, sets the perfect tone of the gangster genre, while Richard Kevin’s cuts commendably opt to let the crux of the plot get through to the viewer rather than use editing gimmicks. Sam C.S’s music score is reminiscent of Santhosh Naryanan but its unfair to judge until viewing the entire movie. Pushkar and Gayathri have so far delivered two movies that are markedly different from the usual fare and their third one has the makings of a cult classic.
