As was reported recently, ‘Care Of Kancharapalem’ has been declared ineligible to be considered for National Awards since its producer is a US citizen. Producer Praveena Paruchuri has taken up the issue of outdated rules stifling creativity. She recently urged Narendra Modi, Chandrababu Naidu and KTR to consider her movie as a made in India product brought out by Indians.
KTR has considered her appeal. He has, in turn, brought the issue to the attention of Union I&B Minister Arun Jaitley. “National awards are a matter of pride for all filmmakers. An award cannot be denied for a #MadeInIndia product because of archaic rules that are redundant in today’s India,” KTR noted.
It has to be seen if Praveena’s cause will get due attention and result in the changing of existing rules. It will be a victory for her if that happens.
