Karthi replies to Jayam Ravi as ‘Vandhiyathevan’! – Confirms his role in Ponniyin Selvan

Actor Karthi is busy shooting for the magnum opus ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ for the past two years. Although the production was delayed due to the ongoing pandemic, Mani Ratnam has made it in record time. This cinematic marvel, which is made in two parts, is one of the costliest franchises in Tamil cinema and also the biggest multistarrer ever. 

In a tweet on August 25, Karthi confirmed that he is playing the role of Vandhiyathevan in the period drama. Yesterday, his co-star Jayam Ravi took to Twitter to inform his fans that he has completed shooting for Ponniyin Selvan. Replying to his tweet, Karthi called him ‘Ilavarase’ (Prince in English). He also revealed he is playing the role of Vandhiyathevan. 

Karthi’s tweet is translated as, “Prince @actor_jayamravi, you cannot bid goodbye so soon! You have a lot to do for the Chola Dynasty. In six days, we will finish work in the North and head back to the South – Vandhiyathevan.” Karthi revealed that he is playing in Ponniyin Selvan. Vandhiyathevan is a trusted aide and friend of Adithya Karikalan (played by Chiyaan Vikram). He is often considered a spy. Jayam Ravi plays the role of Arulmozhi Varman, who is fondly called Ponniyin Selvan. 

Karthi, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Prakash Raj and the rest of the movie team have been shooting for the ongoing schedule of Ponniyin Selvan in Madhya Pradesh. Recently, a photo of Aishwarya Rai dressed as Nandini was leaked online. The celebrated director Mani Ratnam imposed more strict protocols in the shoot. While Isai Puyal A.R. Rahman scores music, Ravi Varman cranks the camera for this film. 

Close to 75% of the shoots are said to be wrapped for both the parts of Ponniyin Selvan. The star cast of this franchise also boasts Aishwarya Lekshmi, Jayaram, Prabhu, Nizhalgal Ravi, Ashwin Kakkamanu, Riaz Khan, Sarathkumar, Parthiban, and Vikram Prabhu. The first part of ‘Ponniyin Selvan – PS1’ is expected to release at the beginning of 2022 followed by ‘PS2’ by the end. It is jointly produced by Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions.
