Shruti Haasan may have tweeted that Tamil Nadu has lost one of the greatest leaders, Kamal Haasan may have refrained from celebrating his birthday this year because his State's Chief Minister had been undergoing treatment in a hospital, but the Universal Star's today's tweet has offended many.
Tweeting in Tamil language, Kamal has said, "Deep sympathy for those who depend on Jayalalithaa" (as translated by a national daily).
This has been seen as an improper remark, especially because it comes only a day after the leader departed from the world, and even before her final rites were performed.
Note that Kamal had had no normal relationship with the late Chief Minister. 'Vishwaroopam' was claimed to have been banned by Jayalalithaa's Govt in view of the threat to law and order situation following certain objections raised by a few Muslim outfits. Even after Kamal said that he will think of leaving the State, and the likes of Dhanush expressed outrage, the ban was not revoked.
A few months later, when Kamal said that he would like to see a dhoti-clad leader as the country's Prime Minister (no prizes for guessing that he was referring to P Chidambaram), 'Amma' diplomatically said that Kamal doesn't select the PM, adding that he had every right to voice his political views.
