Netflix has unveiled the trailer of Akka, an intense gangster drama featuring Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte in powerful lead roles. Backed by YRF Entertainment, the upcoming series promises a gripping tale of power, ambition, loyalty, legacy and revenge, set in a fictional world where women rule criminal empires. Written and directed by Dharamaraj Shetty, Akka is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix on October 30, 2026.
Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte in a Fierce Power Struggle
Set in the fictional kingdom of Pernuru, Akka explores a unique world where powerful clans have been ruled by women for generations. However, beneath the kingdom’s seemingly disciplined structure lie deep-rooted rivalries, hidden tensions and unresolved conflicts.
The arrival of an outsider threatens the established order, setting off a chain of confrontations that could change the kingdom’s future. At the centre of this conflict are Bhavani, played by Keerthy Suresh, and Rudra, portrayed by Radhika Apte. With contrasting ambitions and beliefs, the two formidable women find themselves locked in a fierce battle for power and control.
The trailer offers a glimpse into a world of intense confrontations, unexpected twists and complicated relationships, with the struggle to protect a legacy emerging as one of the story’s central themes.
Strong Supporting Cast and Powerful Female Characters
Alongside the lead actresses, the series features Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Anshumaan Pushkar and Monica Panwar in pivotal roles. The makers have created a distinctive gangster universe in which women occupy positions of authority and are prepared to fight to protect their empires.
Netflix India Series Head Tanya Bami highlighted the show’s distinctive storytelling and its portrayal of women at the centre of power. Director Dharamaraj Shetty also expressed his excitement about building an unconventional gangster world filled with complex characters and compelling relationships.
Keerthy Suresh described Bhavani as a strong woman determined to safeguard her legacy, while Radhika Apte characterised Rudra as a fearless individual who refuses to be defined by her circumstances. Both actresses emphasised the intensity of their characters’ rivalry and the themes of ambition, loyalty and power that drive the narrative.
Netflix and YRF Entertainment Join Hands Again
Akka marks another collaboration between Netflix and YRF Entertainment, the production house associated with projects such as The Romantics, The Railway Men, Maharaj and Mandla Murders.
With its unconventional setting, strong female leads and a battle for dominance at its core, the series aims to offer a different take on the gangster drama genre. The central question is who will ultimately claim the throne and control Pernuru.
As the series’ central premise declares, “The women who sit on the throne and rule are called ‘Akka’.”
Akka will premiere exclusively on Netflix on October 30, 2026.
