Kalyan Jewellers suspends Nagarjunas controversial ad

It's known that Kalyan Jewellers was recently faced with a complaint by a bank employees' association weeks after its ads featuring Amitabh Bachchan and his daughter Shweta Bachchan in Hindi, and Nagarjuna and a child artist in Telugu were released. The union in question had claimed that the ads portray the banking staff in an unflattering light.

In the Telugu-language commercial (as in the Hindi one), an old man (Nagarjuna) comes to a bank along with his granddaughter (a Malayali child artist), only to receive an unwelcome treatment. Following the union's complaint, Kalyan Jewellers has withdrawn the ad. "We sincerely regret the inadvertent hurt caused and withdraw the advertisement from all media with immediate effect. We understand that the advertisement has hurt sentiments of some people including members of our esteemed banking community. Any such hurtful interpretation being drawn is unintended," the company has said.

The Hindi-language ad, featuring Big B and his daughter, has also been suspended by the company.
