Kalaignar Karunanidhi Birthday Special

Today is the 94th birthday of one of India's senior most and highly influential politicians Kalaignar M.Karunanidhi. This year birthday is even more special as it is being celebrated as not just his birthday but also as the 60th Diamond Jubilee Year of his membership in Tamil Nadu State Legislative Assembly. Since being elected from the Kulithalai constituency in 1957, Karunanidhi has won 13 elections to be elected as an MLA from various constituencies across Tamil Nadu. In this period he has served as the Chief Minister for five times. 

There can be a lot of criticisms against his politics but one cannot dispute the fact that he has been one of the greatest politician and an administrator. As a Chief Minister he has implemented many useful schemes for the Tamil Nadu people. For more than 50 years he has been the fulcrum of Tamil Nadu politics. 

Apart from politics Karunanidhi is also equally great in writing for cinema and magazines. He was a star dialogue writer in the black and white era of films. His dialogues for the films such as 'Parasakthi', 'Mandhirkumari', 'Manohara' and 'Poompuhar' are still remembered by the people of that era. 

Karunanidhi's proficiency in Tamil language and his command as an orator and writer in Tamil is unmatched. His self confidence, hard work and sincerity are inspirational even to his detractors. 

Age has taken a toll on this Nonagenarian leader and for the first time he will not be meeting his party cadre on his birthday. For the first time he will not be addressing his cadre and admirers spread across the globe, on his birthday. But the DMK has organised a grand Diamond Jubilee Function in Chennai in which politicians from many regional and national parties are expected to participate.
