Veteran costume designer K. Govindaraj who has worked hundreds of Tamil and other language films passed away at his residence in Valasaravakkam, Chennai due to age related ailments. He was 82 and is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.
Though Govindaraj had been in the Tamil film industry for several decades his busiest period was the three decades of eighties, nineties and the 2000s. He designed costumes for Vijay in several movies including ‘Kadhalukku Mariyadhai’ and ‘Poove Unakkaga’ both of which were career defining hits for the hero.
Govindaraj also worked with Ajith in a few films including ‘Nee Varuvayenna’ and also Virkaman’s blockbuster hit movie ‘Suryavamsam’ starring Sarathkumar and Devyani. His final rites will be held today. RIP!
