“Beshak hum sab ISKCON wale hain, par andar se hum harami porn waley hain…” Stand-up comedienne Surleen Kaur is in trobule for using this sentence during a performance last year. ISKCON, the religious organization dedicated to spreading the message of Bhagawad Gita, has lodged a police complaint against Surleen Kaur, who is also an actress.
In its complaint, the Hindu organization has said that “enough is enough”. Terming the comments derogatory, it said that Surleen’s performance hurts the religious sentiments of Hindus.
Shemaroo, the YouTube channel which had uploaded the performance, has pulled the controversial video clip down. “This is with regards to the video that has been brought to our notice featuring comedian Ms. Surleen Kaur. The video was found derogatory and the same has been taken down with immediate effect. Shemaroo is committed to ensure our content is neutral and unbiased towards any religion, caste, creed or culture. We apologize to all brothers and sisters of the Iskcon community whose sentiments we might have unintentionally hurt. We extend our assurance that such matters will be dealt meticulously and with extreme sensitivity,” it said, issuing an apology.
The public apology hasn’t changed ISKCON’s position.
