The other day, when former India cricketer Irfan Pathan posted a pic of himself, his wife Safa Baig and his son, there arose a controversy because the wife's face was blurred. Many social media users called out the former bowler and accused him of stifling his wife's freedom. They alleged that Pathan has subjected his wife to regressive and patriarchal norms.
Pathan, after going through the barrage of criticism, took to Twitter and said that it was his wife's choice to get her pic blurred that way. "This picture is posted by my queen from my son’s account. We are getting a lot of hate. Let me post this here as well. She blurred this pic by her choice. And Yes, I’m her mate, not her master;). #herlifeherchoice (sic)," he wrote.
But the explanation didn't go down well with a lot of users. A Twitter user hit out and said, "But this too is an issue. If you make a well-rounded, informed choice so be it. But this particular choice stems from years of indoctrinated patriarchy and oppression in the name of religion."
Another Netizen said that affluent people like Pathan do this by choice. "But many men out there will now give this example to IMPOSE this on their wife.. You are a public figure," he wrote.
