Despite his incredible outing in the 14th edition of Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings’ star opening batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad has struggled to make a mark in the current season of the tournament, managing to score barely two runs of the three matches he played so far.
Having lost to Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Supergiants in the first two games, CSK faced another embarrassing 54-run defeat last night at the hands of Punjab Kings. During the post match press conference, CSK captain Ravindra Jadeja said, “I think we lost too many wickets in the powerplay and didn’t find momentum from ball one. We need to find a way to come back stronger.” Speaking about Gaikwad’s form, he added, “We need to give him confidence as we all know he's a very good player. I'm sure he will come good.”
Ruturaj Gaikwad was the Orange Cup holder in the last year’s IPL, topping the scoring charts with 635 runs at an average of 45.35 and a strike rate of 136. He smashed four fifties and a century in IPL 2021, playing a crucial role in CSK’s ultimate victory.
