In a shocking incident in Gujarat, about 68 girl students of Shree Sahajanand Girls Institute, which is located in Bhuj, were most recently asked by the hostel management of the Institute “to remove their innerwear to prove that they were not menstruating”. It’s obviously against the human rights of the girl students.
Following the reporting of the incident by the media, the National Commission for Women has on Friday taken a suo-moto cognizance and said that it has constituted an inquiry team. The team, comprising of officials and activists, will visit the Institute and speak directly with the girl students who have been victimized.
Meanwhile, the Institute’s dean said that the “matter is related to the hostel of the Institute and has nothing to do with the college. “Everything happened with the girls’ permission and nobody was forced to do it. Nobody touched them,” she added.
The incident has shocked the conscience of many.
