Legendary film music composer Isaigniani Ilayaraja who has enthralled music lovers for close to five decades is now a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament. He has been nominated to the Upper House by the President Ram Nath Kovind and millions of his fans are showering wishes on social media.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has posted the congratulatory message "The creative genius of Ilaiyaraaja Ji has enthralled people across generations. His works beautifully reflect many emotions. What is equally inspiring is his life journey- he rose from a humble background and achieved so much. Glad that he has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha."

Maestro Ilayaraja who is 79 is still scoring music for films including Vetrimaaran's 'Viduthalai', Susi Ganesan's 'Vanjam Theerthayada' and Aishwarya Rajinikanth's 'Oh Saath Chal'.
