Covid-19 has become a pandemic and it is forcing world to change it ways. The economical slow down and the fact that everyone in the world will face the impact of this crisis for at least another 2 years, is making many worry about how things are going to change. Nobody is able to identify the ramifications and suggest a solid solution to overcome the problems.
Now, Telugu Cinema is facing huge problem like every language Cinema around the globe with theatre viewing under immense threat. If theatre occupancy is not at the normal rate, many big budget films will lose huge amounts.
Exhibition system that decides the table profits of any film, will have a tough time to come up with feasible rates to big films. Producers who gamble with these big budget films majorly look at table profits to pay off their loans and record Satellite rights in different languages, Audio rights, Digital rights as profits.
If they don't recover costs on table, that is, from distributors, exhibitors, the losses that they incur will be heavy. Some might even decide to never produce any film. Before Summer 2021 or by Summer 2021 - RRR, Prabhas 20 - Oh Dear (working title), Aacharya, Mahesh27, Pushpa, Balakrishna - Boyapati Film are supposed to release.
Vijay Devarakonda's movie with Puri Jagannath could also be a big budget film, as it is aiming for Pan-India release in different languages. All these films except for RRR and Prabhas20, might have to reconsider the budgets and be circumspect about the release date and other deals.
For RRR and Prabhas20, producers may have to wait till theatres are fully functional to think about release dates and publicity strategies along with percentage deals with distributors and exhibitors. Some might ask them to change the existing deals and come up with new one.
To say the least, things have changed and it is hard to say right now for good or bad. All we can do is hope that Industry will come up a plan that will be profitable to all parties and sustainable in the long run too.
