A report published by Reuters today claimed that the KIA Motors manufacturing unit in Anantapur will be shifted to Tamil Nadu because of the “policy changes” brought in by the Jaganmohan Reddy government. Soon after this report came, several media outlets quoted it and condemned the attitude of the YSRCP government towards investment.
Truth to be told, the news is baseless and fake. As reported by ANI, there is no such plan by the KIA Motors to shift their plant to Tamil Nadu. Rajath Bhargava, Special Chief Secretary with a department in the Andhra Pradesh government, said, “News report of Kia Motors shifting from Andhra Pradesh is not true. KIA and the state government are working together. We strongly condemn the news.”
There is this speculation that the TDP had planted the news to give negative press to the government.
“It’s logistically impossible to shift the plant that is spread over 536 acres,” a report says. The USD 1.1 billion plant can produce 3 lakh units per year, including electric vehicles.
