Is Google tracking users even when they are in Incognito mode while using the search engine? As per a lawsuit filed in the federal court in the US’ San Jose, the answer is a big yes. As per the lawsuit, Google has been tracking its users’ most intimate searches through Google Analytics and Google Ad Manager, among others. The class-action lawsuit says that Google, thus, is liable to pay $5 billion.
The lawsuit, which has been widely reported by the American media, says that Google’s continued “covert and unauthorized data collection” has been happening from “virtually every American with a computer or phone.”
What is Google’s response? As per a spokesperson quoted by reports, “the browser clearly states that websites might be able to collect information about your browsing activity when a new Incognito tab is opened”. As such, by implication, Google is not at fault.
While Google will fight it out, the class-action suit seeks a “class-action certification and a minimum of $5,000 per user impacted.”
