Rohit Sharma should be made India’s captain for 2021 T20 World Cup: Parthiv Patel

Former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel recently made the headlines after he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The left-handed batsman has now picked Rohit Sharma over Virat Kohli as his choice of player to lead the Indian team during the T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in 2021.

Claiming that Rohit Sharma knew the art of building a team and citing it to be the reason behind Mumbai Indians’ five IPL victories over the last eight seasons, Parthiv Patel said that making Rohit Sharma the captain of one of the formats would release some pressure off Virat Kohli, who has remained the skipper of all three forms of cricket since 2017. “Rohit Sharma has shown us how to build a team. He has shown us how to win a tournament. I think there is no harm in giving him the captaincy in one format. This will also relieve Virat Kohli of some pressure. With him (Rohit) winning so many tournaments, it will be interesting to see how he takes decisions under pressure. Mumbai Indians does not have a settled team every season, but Rohit Sharma has shown that he knows how to build players and show results,” Parthiv Patel reportedly stated.

The former wicketkeeper-batsman also made it clear that Rohit Sharma would be his choice of captain for the squad in the upcoming World Cup. “According to me for the T20 World Cup, if Rohit Sharma is fit to play, he should be given the captaincy ahead of the tournament,” Parthiv Patel added.
