‘Fauzi’: Sudeep Chatterjee Reveals What Makes Prabhas So Special on Screen

Prabhas is once again preparing to make a massive impact on the big screen. His much-awaited period drama ‘Fauzi’, directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, has officially been lined up for a worldwide theatrical release on December 3, 2026.

The film has become one of the most closely watched upcoming projects in Indian cinema, bringing together Prabhas, the director of Sita Ramam, and Mythri Movie Makers, the production house behind the hugely successful Pushpa franchise.

A completely different Prabhas is coming

While Prabhas has already explored larger-than-life characters in several pan-India films, Fauzi is expected to present the actor in a distinctly intense avatar.

The makers have already offered a glimpse of what lies ahead. The recently unveiled visual showed Prabhas in a blood-soaked appearance, holding a gun and projecting a raw, fierce intensity. The glimpse immediately caught the attention of fans and sparked considerable discussion across social media.

The period backdrop and Hanu Raghavapudi’s reputation for combining emotion with strong storytelling have further raised expectations surrounding the project.

Why does the audience connect with Prabhas?

One of the most interesting observations about Prabhas has come from Sudeep Chatterjee, the acclaimed cinematographer making his Telugu debut with Fauzi.

Chatterjee has previously worked on acclaimed films including Guzaarish, Dor, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. Speaking about his experience of working with Prabhas, he pointed to something that goes beyond the actor’s popularity or screen presence — his eyes.

According to the cinematographer, Prabhas possesses an honesty that naturally comes through the camera.

“There is just so much truth in his eyes. Not an iota of dishonesty. He has very honest eyes, and that comes through the lens as a beautiful human being. That is what audiences connect with.”

Chatterjee further noted that one needs to actually work with Prabhas to understand why the actor enjoys such an extraordinary connection with audiences.

Back to the period-drama world after ‘Baahubali’

For Prabhas, Fauzi also represents a return to the grand period-drama space after the Baahubali films, which transformed him into a global Indian star.

However, the upcoming film is not being presented simply as another large-scale action spectacle. The combination of Hanu Raghavapudi’s storytelling style and Sudeep Chatterjee’s visual expertise suggests that the makers are aiming for a film where character, emotion and atmosphere play an equally important role.

That combination has made Fauzi a particularly interesting title in Prabhas’ upcoming lineup.

A major collaboration for Mythri Movie Makers

The project brings together three major forces: Prabhas, Hanu Raghavapudi and Mythri Movie Makers.

Hanu previously won widespread appreciation for Sita Ramam, while Mythri Movie Makers has established itself as one of the leading production houses in Indian cinema through films such as the Pushpa franchise.

The makers have described the collaboration as a “union of generations”, reflecting the coming together of Prabhas’ pan-India stature, Hanu’s distinctive filmmaking approach and Mythri’s production scale.

‘Fauzi’ release date

Directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, Fauzi is produced by Naveen Yerneni, Y Ravi Shankar and Bhushan Kumar. The film is backed by Mythri Movie Makers and presented by T-Series Films.

With Prabhas taking on an intense period character, Hanu Raghavapudi at the helm and Sudeep Chatterjee behind the camera, the film has already become one of the major projects to watch out for.

‘Fauzi’ is scheduled to release worldwide in theatres on December 3, 2026.
