Olympic Champion Ethan Katzberg’s Victory Leads to DNA Test Jokes

Canada won its first gold medal in the hammer throw since 1956 thanks to Ethan Katzberg’s amazing showing at the Olympics. Katzberg, from Nanaimo, British Columbia, is the first Canadian to land on the Olympic podium in hammer throw since Duncan Gillis took silver at the 1912 Stockholm Games. Con Walsh, who got bronze at the 1908 London Olympics, was the only other Canadian to medal in this event.

With an amazing 84.12 meters—a distance no rival could match— Katzberg’s opening throw in the final With no other athlete hitting the 80-meter mark, the 22-year-old also recorded the second-best throw of the tournament at 82.28 meters. Appreciating his coach, Dylan Armstrong, Katzberg remarked, “Dylan got me ready for this all year. Our only concentration was this; throwing 84 meters and winning gold feels fantastic.” He went on, “Being an Olympic champion is a special moment I’ll always remember.”

Inspired by his sister’s hammer throw performance, Katzberg first took up the sport aged 14. Already a Commonwealth Games silver medallist (2022), hammer throw world champion (2023), and now Olympic gold medallist at just 22.
