The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) condemned the BJP-led Centre for pursuing an inappropriate ‘one country-one-language-one religion’ slogan relentlessly without bothering to look deep into issues of concern to the people.
DMK, which is the dominant opposition party in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, is holding its zonal conference in Erode. Party’s working president and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin inaugurated the 2-day conference yesterday, was present when the conference passed a few resolutions and condemnations today.
The conference condemned efforts by certain quarters (read: the VHP) in destroying the communal fabric of the State. It held the ruling AIADMK regime responsible for the destruction of statues of social reformer EVR Periyar at many places in the State. It took to task the BJP, which rules at the Centre, for delaying constitution of the Cauvery Management Board as per apex Court’s directions.
The DMK condemned the BJP’s policy of one-country-one-language-one-religion’ is also highly condemnable. “We also condemn the Centre’s efforts in taking away the States’ rights in every possible manner,” a resolutions said. Resolutions were also passed urging the Centre to exempt students From Tamil Nadu from appearing in NEET exams.
