The trend of releasing new movies for Ramzan festival has been catching up in Kollywood in the recent years. Last year the big release for Ramzan for the Dhanush-Kajal Aggarwal starrer Maari' and this year a few films released and the prominent among them is Santhanam's 'Dhillukku Dhuddu' which has taken a tremendous opening.
The Eid festival fell on Thursday (July 7) paving way for a long four day Box office weekend. 'Dhillikku Dhuddu' with Santhanam and a slew of comedians such as 'Naan Kadavul' Rajendran and Karunas has collected a whopping Rs.4 crores in Tamil Nadu on its release date. The next day (July 8) was a working day, but still the film managed to get 80% of its first day collections according to trade sources. The next two days being weekend holidays, we can expect tremendous collections. With the all round positive word of mouth, bringing in more footfalls, we can expect that the makers will recover the cost in the first four days itself.
Not only 'DD' but even the last week releases have had good collections on Ramzan holiday this week. Out of the last week's releases, Samuthirakani's 'Appa' which was acclaimed for its message oriented subject grabbed an excellent theatre occupancy on Thursday and this has driven the film into the hit zone.
Sibiraj-Sathyaraj starrer horror comedy 'Jackson Durai' which received mixed reviews upon its release on July 1, has also managed to continue its good run at the theatres all over Tamil Nadu and information from trade circles suggest that the film will end up as a profitable venture.
The talk in trade circles is that this Ramzan has brought tremendous fortunes for all the films in Kollywood box office, which has been on a rough patch so far this year. This is said to be the best Eid season for Kollywood since 2011.
