Actor Dhanush had last year acted in Asuran directed by Vetrimaaran, and the movie which was based on the novel Vekkai by Poomani also starred Manju Warrier, Ken and Prakashraj and became a massive commercial success.

Following the success of the Tamil version, the movie's Telugu remake was launched, and Venkatesh and Priyamani are acting in the Telugu remake Narappa. Last week, there were reports that the movie is being remade in Chinese, after a China productions house was impressed by Asuran.

However, as per sources, producer Kalaipuli S Thanu has dismiss the Chinese remake as a mere rumour and that there are only plans to dub the movie in Chinese, and remaking it in Kannada. Aa of now, Asuran is set to be remade in Telugu and Kannada, and only get dubbed in Chinese.
