It's known that a new strain of COVID-19 virus has been discovered by virologists in the UK. It's said to be 70% more infectious than the prevalent mutations.
The news is that 5 flyers who arrived at the Delhi airport in an incoming flight from the UK have tested positive for COVID-19. In all, 266 people were there on the flight. The samples of the five flyers have been sent to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for further research.
As per the protocol, every single passenger coming to India till Tuesday midnight from the UK will be tested and quarantined. The Indian government on Monday decided that all flights originating from the UK to India shall be temporarily suspended till 11:59 pm, 31st December.
As of now, not a single case of the new strain has been discovered in India. However, many feel that it's only a matter of time before the first case is discovered in India. It's because we have banned flights only from the UK, like many countries. And the new strain has already been discovered in quite a few other countries. Sooner than later, the new strain will spread in several countries and it's inevitable.
