The KCR government has on Thursday decided to stop Covid-19 testing in the limits of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation for two days. This is because a lot of samples already collected are yet to be tested. With a huge backlog, the healthcare system is apparently not in a position to carry out new tests.
The aim was to complete as many as 50,000 tests in 10 days, by today (June 25). Clearly, the target hasn’t been reached.
It was claimed recently that the State has got a testing capacity of more than 10,000 per day. Doubling of the testing capacity is the need of the hour. On the contrary, testing itself has been suspended for two days.
This has come at a time when GHMC has been witnessing a spike in new cases. The flattening of the curve seems to be a distant dream for now.
