Vaccination against Covid-19 for kids aged 12 – 14 will begin from tomorrow (March 16), after the central government allowed the Corbevax vaccine, manufactured by Biological E. Limited, to be administered to over 7 crore children in the age group.
As per reports, the Corbevax vaccine is a receptor binding domain protein sub unit vaccine, developed in collaboration with the USA’s Baylor College. It is administered through an intramuscular route with two doses scheduled 28 days apart and is stored at 2 to 8 degrees’ Celsius temperature and presented as 0.5 ml (single dose) and 5 ml (10 doses) vial and 10 mL (20 doses) vial pack. Corbevax was granted the emergency use authorization by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for use in people aged over 12 in December last year.
Everyone over the age of 60 can also take the booster shots now. “Union Government after due deliberations with scientific bodies has decided to start COVID19 vaccination for 12-13 yr and 13-14 yr age groups (those born in 2008, 2009 and 2010. i.e those who are already above 12 years of age) of the population from 16th March 2022,” the health ministry said in a statement.
