The Tamil Nadu police arrested four persons in two locations for spreading rumours about coronavirus. One of the cases involves 3 men from Erode district, and another was the arrest of Healer Baskar in Coimbatore.
The Erode police has arrested Vasudevan (25), Kamalesh (20) and Varadharaj (35) in Chithode as they were spreading false information about coronavirus via WhatsApp and created panic among the people. After receiving several complaints, the police investigated and traced their locations and arrested them. FIR has been filed against the three men under IPC sections 269 (Negligently doing any act known to be likely to spread infection of any disease dangerous to life) and 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others).
In Coimbatore, police arrested Healer Baskar, known for his unscientific methods and treatments. Deputy Director of Health Dr G Ramesh Kumar made a complaint against Baskar, and the Kuniyamuthur police who arrested him registered an FIR against him under IPC sections 153 A (Promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc.),504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 505(i) (Statements conducing to public mischief).
