Sontha Vooru’s screening at Mumbai international film fest

Sontha Vooru, which released in the month of February this year, did not get much of box office appreciation; but when it comes to making it to international film festivals, the film is in the front row.

The only Telugu film to have been selected for the prestigious Mumabi International film festival conducted by MAMI (Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image), the film which in which ace comedian LB Sriram acted as a caretaker of a graveyard, Sontha Vooru has got the appreciation of directors like Charan (Autograph), when it was filmed at the festival.  A festival chaired by the czar of Indian parallel cinema Shyam Benegal, it was over 200 films from 56 countries participating in it, between October 29 and November 5.

The story of the caretaker Rudraswamy realising that the village head’s decision to sell off the land of the poor for facilitating a Special Economic Zone, is thought-provoking.  Tugging at the heartstrings are the performances of LB and Tanikella Bharani (who plays the village’s head) and dialogue (penned also by LB, along with Nagaraju Gandham and Sunil Kumar Reddy). Actor Raja plays a poor man starts loving the village’s only whore.  Sunil Kumar Reddy directed the movie.
